To request color swatches, fill out our Request Color Samples form.

What sizes/dimensions are your beds?

Overall cabinet sizing will depend on bed size (Twin, Twin-XL, Full, Queen, and King) and model. The best way to see those dimensions for the product you're interested in is from the product page. See below for where on the product page this information is.

If you have light fixtures or a ceiling fan that you're worried about hitting against the bed when opened, you can use the form on the Ceiling Clearance Calculator page to calculate the swing arc of any of our beds.

What material are your beds made out of?

We start with a 3/4" thick industrial-core particle board faced with a thermally fused melamine coating to provide a durable hard surface. Our industrial core is far superior to the commercial-core commonly found in discount stores. You can learn more about the construction of our beds by reading our blog post: BredaBeds Material Construction.

Where are your beds manufactured?

BredaBeds is proud to be based in Idaho, where we employ over 30 dedicated individuals committed to delivering high-quality, innovative products. Our wood paneling is sourced entirely from American suppliers, primarily from the Pacific Northwest, reflecting our dedication to supporting local industries.

While we do incorporate some globally sourced materials, such as electronic components and the steel frame and mechanisms used in our Murphy Beds, our focus remains on sourcing American-made products whenever possible. As a leading manufacturer of Murphy Beds, our mission is to support American jobs and ensure our customers receive the best materials and craftsmanship available. Our policy is to source more American made products whenever possible, never less.

We ship nationwide excluding Hawaii and Alaska. You can learn more about our company by visiting our story page.

How much weight can your beds support?

The maximum weight that our beds support varies depending on bed model, but as a general rule they will support the weight on the mattress + ~250 lbs per person. If a heavier person is anticipated to be using the bed, we recommend a mattress with a lower-density foam. The maximum mattress weight we recommend is 110 lbs.

What type of mechanism do your beds use?

Our bed products come with a spring-type Murphy Bed mechanism, which is more reliable, more adjustable, and safer than the piston-type mechanism others use. The springs are designed for everyday use and are rated to lose just 5% of their tension over a 30-year period. The weight of the mattress and face panel is counterbalanced by the number of springs that get used on the mechanism, so the heavier mattress you have, the more springs you'll use.

What is the difference between the product collections?

You can see a comparison grid between all of our collections on our Compare Product Collections page. In general, the biggest difference is the door styling and the cabinet depth. For example, the Penthouse and Studio Collection Murphy Beds come with extra deep hutches (21" deep) and wardrobe rods to support using the side hutches for hanging closes, while the other collections have a more shallow hutch (16" deep) and do not have the wardrobe rods.

What is the difference between a horizontal and a vertical Murphy Bed?

A vertical Murphy Bed next to a horizontal Murphy Bed

This refers to how the Murphy Bed is oriented. Click on the image above for a visualization of the difference. On a vertical, you would lay perpendicular to the wall, and on a horizontal, you would lay parallel to the wall. For an in-depth article, see the blog post, Vertical vs. Horizontal Murphy Beds.

Does BredaBeds offer a California King size Murphy Bed?

BredaBeds does not offer any of our models in a California King size. We do offer (Eastern) King size beds, which you can find on our King Murphy Bed category page, or use the "Shop By" sidebar box to narrow your choices.

Mattress Related

What thickness of mattress can I use?

Accommodates any standard U.S. mattress sizes up to 13" thick and under 110 lbs; however, we recommend keeping the thickness under 11" so the headboard can sit at an angle to minimize the gap between the wall and mattress. Additionally, the leg rod may need to be removed for mattresses between 11"-13". For this reason, we also provide a mattress strap to help hold the mattress in place. Mattresses are not included; see our Mattresses page to find a mattress from BredaBeds, or use your own.

Does BredaBeds sell mattresses?

Mattresses are not included; see our Mattresses page to find a mattress from BredaBeds, or use your own.

Do you need a box-spring for the mattress?

Does the bed come assembled?

Does the bed attach to the floor or the wall?

Our beds are all designed to attach to the wall, and all the necessary hardware is provided.

How long does it take to assemble a bed?

This can vary widely depending on the model bed purchased and the person assembling the bed. We would be happy to email you the instructions for the model you are considering so you can review them before your purchase.

Do you have your instructions online?

We have spent countless hours compiling instructions for our many different models and currently do not have them online. We are happy to email them for your review before purchase.

In addition to paper instructions provided with the purchase of each bed model, we also provide a general resource online at the Murphy Bed Assembly page. Video instructions provided by BredaBeds are meant to be used as a supplement to the paper instructions, not as a replacement.

Do I need to remove my baseboard before assembly?

No, we provide a number of different notch sizes on each product page, which you can select when configuring your bed model.

Opening & Closing

Can I leave the bedding and pillows on the bed when closing the unit?

Yes, sheets, blankets, and comforters can stay on when closing if you tuck them in at the edges. Pillows should be placed outside the Bed Cabinet when folding up the Murphy Bed or under the bedding midway on the mattress to keep the pillows away from the headboard panel.

How easy are the beds to open and close?

Our Murphy Beds open and close with minimal effort; they come with a spring-type mechanism, which is more reliable, more adjustable, and safer than the piston-type mechanism others use. The springs are designed for everyday use and are rated to lose just 5% of their tension over a 30-year period. The weight of the mattress and face panel is counterbalanced by the number of springs that get used on the mechanism, so the heavier mattress you have, the more springs you'll use.

How does the mattress stay in place when opening and closing?

The mattress sits in a frame that contains the mattress to prevent the mattress from sliding when in use. The leg rod flips over the top of the bed and holds the mattress in place when opening and closing. We also provide a strap that can hold the mattress in place. However, we recommend against using it since the leg rod will hold the mattress in nearly all situations.

Will the bed hit against my light or ceiling fan?

Use the form on the Ceiling Clearance page to calculate the swing arc of any of our beds.
